Malaria
Malaria is a very real threat in Mozambique. Please follow these basic guidelines and
you should be okay.
- Prophylaxis – Larium (Mefloquin) is taken weekly but it does not agree with everyone. Malanil is very effective but very expensive. Doxycycline is less convenient as you have to take it long after leaving a malarial area, but is safe if you plan to go scuba diving.
- Please contact your doctor for further info on the above
- Repellents – citronella, Tabard, Mosquito coils etc is good to take with
- Sleep under a mosquito net.
Water
The drinking water in Ponta do Ouro is normally from boreholes. The water doesn’t
agree with every one, so we suggest that you take your own drinking water with, drinking
water from the shops are expensive.
